BLACK POWDER

As the section name suggests, members shoot older-style firearms that use Black Powder as a propellant. Although this powder is usually only encountered in fireworks now, it has hundreds of years of history behind it. It is characterised by its smell and copious amounts of smoke.

The sport can be very competitive at whatever level you wish to play, and it is hugely popular in many parts of the world, particularly Europe and the U.S.A. Notwithstanding the level of competition found overseas, New Zealand has greatly succeeded in International Competitions in Rifle, Shotgun and Pistol events over the years.

At RR&GC, we shoot twice monthly, on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, on Range 2 using muzzle-loading rifles, black powder cartridge rifles, and shotguns.

Although we have some section competitions and other annual events, feel free to come along and join in with whatever Black Powder firearm you have. Be assured you will get any required help and pick up heaps of knowledge.

If you are new to the sport, it would probably be advantageous to come and chat with us before buying a firearm and accessories. If you want to know more about the Black powder section, please contact the section leader here.
